Case Materials
Stainless Steel
Mondaine uses 316L stainless steel for its cases. Up to 80% of the steel used for our cases is recycled, supporting a circular economy. Stainless steel's durability and resistance to rust and corrosion make it an ideal material for watches, leading to high-quality and long-lasting timepieces.
Castor Oil
The essence collection is the first watch made with a castor oil casing. The Ricinus (castor) oil is extracted from the castor seeds by a mechanical pressing process and is then further processed in a granulate form to be turned into a bio-plastic to create a watch case. Using this process, a special compound material has been developed by BASF* and adapted to our needs in terms of durability, stability and water resistance by adding 40% glass fiber. Therefore, over 70% of the essence cases are natural materials. The special compound of the essence case is made from: 41% castor oil, 27% Fossil Plastics, 30% Glass Powder, 2% Color, making it a renewable and sustainable watch collection that is also longwearing and resistant to natural wear and tear.

Glass Crystal
Sapphire glass crystal
Made from synthetic sapphire, this commonly used crystal for watch faces is extremely scratch resistant. Durable and highly scratch resistant, sapphire crystal is ideal for daily watch wear.

Made of tempered glass, mineral crystal is treated with chemicals to increase it's hardness and scratch resistance.
Eco-Friendly Straps
Vegan Leather
We believe plant-based materials are the way forward, so in an effort to further lower our carbon footprint we have introduced vegan grape leather straps into our collections. We partnered with Vegea™ – an Italian company specialized in turning waste from winemaking into a vegetal leather alternative.
As well as being animal friendly and free from solvents, no heavy metals or other harmful substances are part of the process of turning discarded grape skins, stalks and seed into beautiful plant-based leather, with a true upcycling result.
Textile/Cork
Our innovative textile straps are made from recycled PET bottles with a cork lining for durability and comfort.
Stainless Steel
We use 316L stainless steel for our Milanese Mesh and Steel bracelets. Up to 80% of the steel used for our bracelets is recycled, supporting a circular economy. Stainless steel's durability and resistance to rust and corrosion make it an ideal material for watches, leading to high-quality and long-lasting timepieces.
Rubber
Mondaine sources natural rubber in order to create unique and sleek strap. Recycled PET is used for the buckles.
